I just tried pdftotext in the command line of Windows 98 and it worked, 
i.e. it prints out the text of the PDF file. Maybe you are not using the 
latest version of xpdf (2.01)? You first have to make it work in the 
command line, I don't think it's a problem with Perlfect Search.
